I have a 60g cube display and a home made 40g sump The sump is divided into 3 zones by smoked glass with 3 baffles after the skimmer zone and 1 after the Refuge zone before the last pumping zone. I bought a twin pack to inexpensively place one in the skimmer area and the other in the shelter area in the always on position to keep dirt and other debris from settling and hopefully put them in one of the various filtering methods I use instead drop . from the water column in my swamp. The brief recap is that they are doing quite a bit of work at this job at the moment. The details are: If I had a bigger budget for fish, I would buy a better pump. They stood still for about a month without the flow deteriorating. However, the flow appears to be MUCH less than advertised. I've had higher end pumps with a similar rating that pump a lot more water. I've used money elsewhere to start this setup so figured this is a place I could get by cheaper as it's not essential and quite extravagant. I'm not disappointed. The pumps are not dead. They are not being aspirated by the septum. They are permanently on, so I can't speak about the reverse flow I've read about. The impeller is on a metal rod, which can be problematic. In my opinion this pump is not a long term solution but a short term solution for a place where the budget is tight. I might even buy these two to start in a smaller demo tank until I've saved up enough to buy a priming pump, but they'll never be part of a workhorse in my opinion. For the price I think they would be a decent second string or back for a fancy pump or a good alternative placement in a range that isn't critical to life support in the long run. They work reasonably well for their cost, but there are better options out there. Unfortunately, they are significantly more expensive and sometimes have completely different problems. This pump performs as well as you can expect for the price and is a reliable temporary solution in my opinion.
