I choose this to replace the split boot on a 2004 STi. The OEM axles were still in good condition (no clicking) and far superior to the remanufactured ones, so I would have preferred to keep the axle and just replace the boot. Replacing the boot is a tricky task, so be prepared. Installing and removing the axle is 80% of the work, replacing the boot is not that difficult. Find an axle removal guide to see what tools are needed. Changing the boot in particular also requires a small flat head screwdriver to remove the inner metal ring (width of your fist) from the inside of the CV joint housing. This allows the cage/bearing attached to the shaft to be pulled out. Make sure none of the bearings roll out. Now brush all the old grease off of all the components and mentally or literally imagine putting it all back together. FYI, this is going to be messy, so stock up on paper towels and disposable gloves. To separate the bearing ring from the shaft you will need to use external snap ring pliers (search for "tekton" on Revain) to remove the snap ring. Slide the crimp and sleeve onto the shaft and assemble everything together with new grease. The instructions say where to put it, but basically it coats all of the metal so it doesn't touch any other metal and puts as much grease on the bearings as possible. Use all of the lubricant from the package. It moves to where it's needed as you move. Secure the boot by inserting both ends into the grooves for each hem, then secure with the metal clips. Now reset the axis. I understand that it's hard to put everything into words, so see if there are photos of the process on the specialized forum.
