Review on πŸ–€ Bold & Beautiful: Dr. Ph. Martin's Star India Ink Bottle - 1.0 oz of Matte Black Majesty by Amber Perez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Waterproof, fade-resistant, archival and matte finish.

Lightfast, archival and water resistant once dry. It's a really nice dark black with a nice matte finish (no glare); You can also dilute with water if you want to work in layers. The ink flows well and is quite dense compared to other inks, although for really large black areas Windsor Newton gouache is still the best in terms of consistency. dr Martins manufactures three types of black ink: 1. Dr. F. Martin's HiCarb India Ink Black Star Ink2. dr Martin's Black Star India Ink Matte3. dr Martin's Bombay Black ink. The HiCarb version is the darkest and also matte when dry (also available on Amazon). The Bombay line also has a good selection of other colors so you can easily apply sheer washes, but I like its black least of the three. I bought a bottle of Black Star India Ink (frosted) for $12 off Amazon, although you can find them cheaper - for example, Art Supply Warehouse currently sells them for $6.65 a bottle, even cheaper in bulk . It is also available in 8 oz and 32 oz bottles. This is a rarer ink, not the type commonly sold in many craft stores. For black and color inks, another good line of inks is Daler-Rowney FW Acrylic Paint for Artists. The colors are very vibrant and you can work very subtly by applying transparent, water-insoluble layers for added depth.
