Well, sooner or later it was bound to happen, the brake pads on my 2006 Forester were worn out and the car jerked when I braked on the freeway. It's time to change my brakes. The naturally aspirated 'Fozz', as it is affectionately known, is not a high-performance car and I am not a racer. So basically I wanted a set of brake pads that had a solid reputation for build quality, durability and everyday rider performance without breaking the bank. I bought EBC Ultimax brake pads for the front and a set for the rear (UD1004). When the package arrived I was pleasantly surprised to find that the EBC included noise canceling pads that need to be removed and attached to the back of the pad. The friction side of the pad is coated with a red "Brake-Inβ layer that helps remove deposits from your existing rotors. The coating essentially brushes dirt off your rotors and prepares the surface so new pads have a cleaner surface to bite on. The Forester is very easy to handle and this brake setup was no different. After lapping the pads I rode it and was very impressed with how quiet the brakes were and an initial bite that was very aggressive. The performance of these pads is better than the original pads, but there is slightly more brake dust on the wheels than the original pads. I didn't have to put brake grease on the back of the pads. After 2500 miles, panic stops, stop and go traffic and freeway driving these pads have exceeded my expectations and I heartily recommend them. PS I updated them too. front brake discs on Centric Premium brake disc (120.47018) and rear brake discs on Centric Premium brake disc (120.47011).
