saved the day! fits tools and equipment

I was replacing an O2 sensor on a BMW 3.0 and found the threading was a nuisance and when I eventually removed the sensor I might not have been able to get a new one back. I found this one on Amazon and indeed 18 x 1.5 was the right match. I was heavily armed with the meter and the filaments were in bad shape. All of the filaments from the sensor were gone and most of the material was in the exhaust manifold filaments. I used a deep hitter head and a striker bar. The O-ring proved very worthy here as it slid into the socket and held its place without falling out. Even when fully inserted into the socket, many cutting tools remained exposed. I started twisting and sliding it into the exhaust manifold. Because this is not a tap, it is stuck and difficult to turn. The essence of the game here is to tighten and loosen back, front and back about 1/8 to 1/4 turn each. That's why I used a breaker, the ratchet has to change direction all the time to move back and forth which is a pain. As you keep threading it and making back and forth motions, you can feel it weaken and the threads clear. Every time you take a step back, try to move forward a little until you've gone all the way. I sprayed some WD40 from time to time to reduce friction when it got hot. In summary, this thread trimmer worked great and ended up saving the day! Lisle instruments have always been a quality for me. The thought of replacing the exhaust manifold and the headache that can come with doing this job have been safely avoided. I helped my son with this work. The value of patience and making sure you have the right tools to get the job done was really shown here! BTW: I initially used a standard O2 sensor socket. After about 1 full turn, it became very tight and then the socket expanded and cracked, indicating thread fraying. I ended up having to cut the wires on the sensor and remove the top to get a regular deep socket to pull it out. The oxygen sensor socket is longer than the standard deep well socket. Hope this can be helpful for someone else with the same problem
