I didn't use cement!

Bought 2 wall mounted mailboxes but didn't like the look of them. Also, I didn't want to drill holes in freshly painted plaster. I looked around and decided on this mailbox and post office. Ironically this comes with a post box AND post and is still cheaper than the wall mounted post box I bought and returned. One of them was even made of plastic! The assembly was very easy. The hardest part was digging a sufficiently deep hole in such a limited space. (I decided to install it right on top of my raised bed) Right near the front steps leading up to the house. I used to use a box temporarily taped to a stool. Letter box. After some digging, I came across a PVC sprinkler pipe. Luckily the hole was still deep enough to cover the bottom rail. I plugged in a post, poured some soil in and tried my best to level it with a small spirit level. Everything was "aligned" to match the bubble, so I added some more dirt and some mud rich clay to make it nice and stable. Everything was set and done, I checked the spirit level again, made a few adjustments and tamped down the mud and clay bottom. I took 10 steps back and the stand tilted to the left! Although the level said it was leveled. I just slipped the box over my eye to smooth it out and tamped the dirt back down. I added some water and pressed the dirt back down to make sure it was as even as possible. Took a step back and it looked great. The next day I clicked the mailbox to make sure it wobbled, which wasn't bad at all. I can open and close the box with no problems. And I didn't have to use cement at all. I read that some people didn't dig, they just hit with a hammer. I think it's a lot easier to just dig a deep hole and make sure you don't hit the pipes! So the hammer would have done serious damage. Overall this is a good mailbox for the price. I wanted white but all I could find was black. Let's see how these things stand up to the scorching sun and any rain. If I had to do it all the way I would add a few more coats of paint or whatever to protect the area of the post that got caught in the dirt.
