I use it for short trips. As a passenger in the car, it is ideal to have a ball of yarn, the necessary hooks/stitch markers/patterns, ID and credit cards with you. When I'm in line, I put my phone in my outside pocket. I can work on my project at the doctor's office without having to lug around large bags of yarn. When it's time to head from the lobby to the exam room, or when the doctor walks in, you can just drop the project, grab a tote bag, and shift your focus. I can work, while standing in line without fuss and chaos. Don't keep a large project like a blanket or scarf unless you're starting a project. However, I can fit the duffel bag into my large twine drum tote bag. I've used it with strands and balls but haven't tried it with cake.
