I use this switch to share a WD Passport USB 3.0 portable drive and various USB drives between Linux Ubuntu desktop and Mac OS Catalina desktop sharing. Switching between them works fine (I use the button above). There are a few things to consider. External power supply needs to be added for the portable hard drive to work. The switch comes with a USB/cylinder power cable, so you only need to provide a power supply with a minimum output current of 2.0A. There is also a slight delay when switching between systems before the hard drive shows up. It takes about 8 seconds on my Linux desktop and about 10 seconds on my Mac desktop. Just something to watch out for if you think this isn't working. Be patient. :) Overall this switch works well for me and now allows me to use my portable drives between my two desktops instead of having to permanently unplug/plug them in between the two systems. Can't speak to hotkey support as I'm already using KVM with a monitor from the same company (great btw) for keyboard and mouse support. But if you're looking for a way to share USB drives, this is a great solution. Highly recommended.
