Review on Noctua NF-A8 PWM - Premium Quiet Fan, 80mm, 4-Pin (Brown) by Kody Bradley

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Blissful sounds of silence.

This rating applies to both the 92mm and 80mm versions of this model, 4-wire units with motherboard speed control. If you, like many consumers, agree with the fans installed by the manufacturer, look at such fans and their costs and say "aha". Ironically, I am/was an IT pro in the same situation. units] for home use, the fan noise I hear at work [in a separate IT room] has become unacceptable in our home office. Did a little research and came across this brand. Granted there are other brands/models out there and I'm approaching this as a newbie. I can summarize our findings by saying that my eagle-eyed significant other was wondering if the server was actually on. such a significant reduction in noise levels. Using the server's built-in hardware monitor, the case fan [that 92mm] fan is running at about 50% of its maximum speed and the CPU fan [80mm] is running at about 70% of its maximum speed, and the temperature swings died down with the noise. They move a lot of air and the design of their blades combined with shock absorbing mounts makes them very quiet. The fans come with a short jumper that switches the fan speed to an even lower range if the maximum speed drops, and it works. quite well and reduces the fan noise to completely inaudible. With four 3.5" drives spinning [and heat] in the server case, I played it safe and brought the fans back to their original speed range with little difference in noise and no change in temperature. /cooling.Based on my experience, I can't rate this line highly enough.
