I bought this to make 4 screw holes in mild steel - 20 gauge sheet metal, double, about 2mm total depth. I used cutting oil and a Makita 3/8 hand drill (love this drill - 25+ years of use). The first hole went well enough, but then it all went downhill. Hole 4 was a miserable cycle of push and catch, push and catch. In addition, the reduced-diameter shank is smooth and without grooves, which makes it easier to work with the jaws of the chuck. It would be hopeless for stainless steel drilling. Conclusion - this drill is not suitable for use in a drilling machine with cutting fluid. Not recommended for hand drills. I will leave it for woodwork but not metal.
