So that's how it works. It has a plunger that moves forward and locks into place. There is a button on the tube, and when you bring the tip close to the solder hot spot, press the button; This causes the plunger to rebound and create suction. I looked everywhere the solder is kept and found nothing and was very discouraged until I pushed the plunger again; pushes the solder out, it soaks it up so fast it doesn't spread, I've got this solder filament I just pulled and it's coming out straight. I love this thing, much more than the suction cup that broke on my old soldering machine. Highly recommended.
