Review on ONVIS Hygrometer Thermometer Temperature Bluetooth by Chris Hossain

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Finally a HomeKit motion/temperature/humidity sensor at a reasonable price.

I currently have an Elgato Eve Motion (motion only) and iHome SmartMonitor (motion/temp/humidity/light/sound) so it's cheap in comparison. (a) Movement: quite sensitive. The movement seems to unravel fairly quickly (a few seconds) and unlike Eve, there is no way to adjust the time to make this movement sticky. You can see the movement history but you have to use the native ONVIS app. More on this app later (b) Temperature: Fairly accurate sensor. I found that iHome's temperature was 2 degrees Fahrenheit different. (c) Humidity: No comment. (d) iOS app: The weakest link is the app. This app really sucks. The graphics are terrible. After updating the firmware, the iOS app crashes every time I try to view device details. Some pages are in CHINESE, seriously ONVIS. Luckily you don't have to use the ONVIS app. The Apple Home app should work with this, or I prefer Eve's app. You only need ONVIS if you need to update the firmware in the near future. (e) Mount: The size is quite small. Better to put it on furniture than mount it on the wall. The problem with the wall mount is that it doesn't have a keyhole so you can't hang it on a nail. On the back is a 3M tape that is part of the battery cover. I don't think I would trust this wall sticker. Although 2 AA batteries should last a year or two (manufacturer claim, I just got it so I can't test it) you shouldn't somehow take it apart one day, at least to replace the battery.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Minor issues
