After trying many options for front (main) floor mats, I tried this one and ended up not being disappointed. Our usage is Landscape, New England, ie snow, ice, sand. Not an extreme amount of dirt. This rug has a solid backing with just enough gaps for most of the sand to seep through and not get caught in the bristles. The bristles themselves are typical of carpets and pipes, allowing them to crawl into the crevices of shoe soles. Additionally, many bristle tubes are scattered across the mat's surface, with enough space between them for dirt to fall through. For this reason, the mat is also easy to clean with punches or a hose.
