Review on ๐Ÿท๏ธ DYMO LabelManager 160: Convenient Portable Label Maker for Home & Office Organization by Jamie Mousavi

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A premature battery failure will render the printer unusable in less than 2 years.

I have had this printer for about a year and a half and it has been very useful to me. I liked that it was USB powered, took up little desk space, and had easy-to-use Windows software. Today I tried to print and found that the internal lithium ion battery has failed. The battery no longer holds a charge, which interferes with the operation of the printer. Why on earth is this a battery powered device? It has no user interface. It's only useful when plugged into a USB power source, presumably plugged into a laptop/desktop that supplies power. The battery part number is w003688 and is available on dymo.com for $26 + freight. This is the same price I originally paid for the entire printer. I don't mind paying inflated prices for printed tape, but getting $40 for a battery every year or two isn't cool. ---------- Edit: I will not be defeated! As stated in other comments, I use a 9V alkaline battery to get the device working. I decided to solder the battery connector to the lithium ion battery terminals. See pictures. Seems to be working great. I'll probably unplug the USB from the computer when I'm not actively using it, as I'm not sure that constantly applying Li-Ion charging voltage/current to an alkaline battery doesn't pose a fire hazard.
