Review on Premium Canon PowerShot ELPH135 Digital Camera - Capturing Brilliant Moments in Black by Dino Burks

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Disappointing for a powershot camera.

Good1) Compact and lightweight. fits easily in a pocket 2) Battery lasts long (used when used abroad for 8 consecutive days without charging) Poor 1) File size is large for photos and images have a large number of pixels. But the images don't look any better than the images from my old camera which produced 1/4 size photos. I suspect the developers of this camera were just trying to maximize the resolution they could report without paying enough attention to the quality of the sensor. 2) The camera does not work well in low light conditions with automatic settings. The flash fires at the wrong time (or not at the desired time). Lots of blur. Unable to take pictures - The camera goes into autofocus mode and then takes a picture at the wrong time. 3) The power supply of the camera is problematic when you travel abroad. You cannot use AA batteries. Cannot charge via USB. Just plugs into a US outlet, and full power US to foreign power converters are hard to find (while foreign to USB power converters are relatively easy to find due to cell phone proliferation) 4) Camera stopped working after 8 months use broken. The clasp did not close completely. I don't know if this is an accident or if the build quality of this model is poor. The Canon factory replaced the broken camera as I had it less than a year. The camera works and is suitable for some purposes. But overall I liked my old Powershot 540 better.

Pros
  • 8x optical zoom offers excellent optical performance and versatility.
Cons
  • Doubtful purchase for the elderly
