My 15 year old daughter and 14 year old son wanted to try their hand at wood carving. I bought a spoon for my daughter as she loves Celtic designs. She hasn't gotten very far and it's a bit tricky, but I've seen her working on it in her free time and she seems to enjoy it. I have been SUPER impressed with both kits I have purchased, both from BeaverCraft. The kit includes all the tools needed, wood, instructions, a pattern, tape to cover your fingers so you don't cut yourself, wax for the finished product, sandpaper and a QR code that will provide you with step-by-step instructions connects video guide. and I know my son's set actually has 2 pieces of wood (probably if you're really confused you can try again) which is great, but I can't remember if the spoon came with two? My daughter left with him before I could check. :) Although I thought it was a bit overpriced at first, once I figured out the alternative, it was worth it. It comes with everything you need and you don't pay anything extra. If you're a beginner and don't even know if you want to pursue a hobby full-time, it can also save you a huge investment.
