The disadvantage of this design is that the black end insulator cannot slide forwards or backwards through the slot in the bottom of the metal like other similar products, which allows the critical air gap to be set to the minimum distance between two metal tongs. As it is the distance is about 1" when it should be much closer, about 1/4" is enough instead to prevent the electric fence charger from jumping over the gap, but no further. I lost my electric fence charger a few days ago due to this design flaw. That's what the spring is for, allowing that black insulator and top button to move forward or backward. This product attaches the isolator to a fixed hole rather than an adjustable slot. It didn't work for me because of the large factory installed air gap between these end pliers.
