Seagate does everyone a disservice by promoting this drive as the standard desktop expansion drive. It's not like this. The drive in this drive is a Seagate backup drive. It is designed for long-term data archiving and is said to spend most of its time in standby mode. Any operation other than sequential reads is slow. It doesn't matter much for backups, but it doesn't do very well for general use as an expansion drive. Disconnect this drive from your computer when not in use to ensure it stops. They're not designed to run 24/7 - put your backup on top of it and then hide it somewhere.
