Using the Olympus 300M in podcasting

I am a teacher who has been experimenting with podcasting my classes. After using an iPod with an optional Belkin microphone, we decided to try the 300-M and were very happy with the results. For a fraction of the iPod's price, we get equally good sound quality, a built-in microphone, and a slightly simpler transmission system. I have a voice recorder installed on my desk and it clearly records not only me but the students' voices as well. Some caveats: Using batteries instead of a plug-in charger can be a little tricky, but we just went with rechargeable batteries and it seems to work well. When you listen to an Olympus recording through the built-in speaker, it sounds a lot worse than an iPod, but when you load them, they basically sound the same. (We're still using iTunes for the transfer.) I record on the ST HQ setting, and as long as you upload your recordings daily (and then delete the recordings from the recorder), there's plenty of storage. You have to be very careful with the recorder while recording - it really amplifies the sound of your hands on your body, so I've learned to just turn it on and put it away and try not to touch it. until I turn it off. If you're looking for podcasting platforms, I highly recommend you consider Olympus.
