Perfect melodic sound engineer

I am an MTSO (Medical Transcription Service Owner) who loves to play with the handheld digital recorders my doctors use before recommending them or sometimes giving them away as encouragement to dictate. I installed two today: a Philips 9350 (about $250) and an Olympus WS-300M (about $75), both good quality portables. Pedal playback of both .dss (Philips) and .wma is easily possible with Australia's Express Scribe, a freeware or proprietary software, one of many available for medical…

Very compact, light and above all functional

I was very surprised by the size (small) of this device. Despite its size, however, it records very well and has a huge storage capacity. The size of the keys didn't bother me, as some other reviewers have pointed out. It has a speaker that some devices don't have - you definitely want that! Also, the files are not proprietary. So when you plug the device into a USB port (and it effectively works as a flash drive [it can actually be used to store other types of files]), it will show up as…

Using the Olympus 300M in podcasting

I am a teacher who has been experimenting with podcasting my classes. After using an iPod with an optional Belkin microphone, we decided to try the 300-M and were very happy with the results. For a fraction of the iPod's price, we get equally good sound quality, a built-in microphone, and a slightly simpler transmission system. I have a voice recorder installed on my desk and it clearly records not only me but the students' voices as well. Some caveats: Using batteries instead of a plug-in…

Outstanding properties! Battery life mediocre.

Bought an Olympus WS-300M for my wife but I was so impressed with its performance that I more or less kept it (sorry dear I'll buy you a new one , I promise.) Easy to use, with a simple one small enough to fit in almost any briefcase, bag, or purse. yet packed with recording and playback features, including support for external microphones and earbuds (which I bought and used). The digital display and user interface is a bit overloaded and takes a little time to navigate the manual, but after…

Pros
  • Looking forward to it
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

The Olympus WS-300M 256MB Digital Voice Recorder and Music Player is exactly what is advertised. I've had the item for about a month. I like the design and it's very easy to use. It's almost too little; Of course it can't be less. All of its features work and work well. Records well in conference and dictation mode. Of course, when recording lecture situations, the sound quality depends on the room acoustics and the volume of the participants' voices when speaking, but overall I am very…

Small package, big possibilities

First of all, this is a great music player. "WOW" and bass boosts contribute to the initially good sound quality. There's even a 5-band equalizer. However, if that's your primary use of the device, you might want to spend a little more money for a WS-320M with quadruple storage. Downloading music to your device couldn't be easier. Just plug it into a USB port and copy your MP3 and WMA files to your music folder. The small display shows the titles of all the songs so you can choose what you want

Pros
  • Big choice
Cons
  • Nothing here
