A GOOD DEVICE AFTER A JUMPER

Like many others, I agree that the basic instructions could have been written better. The software was installed without any problems. I just couldn't get the thing to burn. HP called and they ran me through an extensive computer setup, starting with "MY COMPUTER" ie Device Manager, "CD-ROM" properties settings, then BACK to My Computer, Properties, Performance, Filesystem, Hard Drive , cd. -rom, graphics, all underwent some adjustments. We also went into the control panel, clicked on display and reset the screen saver so it didn't show for at least 60 minutes. Or better yet, turn it off to burn music CDs. options. Reduced the speed to a maximum of 1x or 2x and disabled "Test operations before disc burning". We also went to file explorer, tools, internet options and decided to delete files and also checked if all offline content should be deleted. We also turned off our internet connection. We then burned a CD and it worked. NOTE: THE ABOVE DESCRIPTION ONLY APPLIES TO BURNING MUSIC CD. with photos at 4x speed even if they were connected to ALSO AND THIS IS IMPORTANT. I FOUND THAT AT LEAST MY COMPUTER (GATEWAY Desktop PENT II 400MHZ, Windows 98) I CANNOT BURN A CD WHEN PLUGGED INTO THE BACK OF MY OTHER USB DEVICE TOWER! I HAVE 2 USP PORTS. One for the CD burner and one for my printer. I HAVE TO DISCONNECT THE HP 1215 PRINTER FROM ITS USB PORT IN ORDER TO BURN A MUSIC CD ON THE HP CD-WRITTER. DON'T ASK ME WHY HP WILL NOT ANSWER THIS QUESTION. URNER. YOU WILL ONLY LOSE THE DISKS. As I said, once I figure out the kinks, the device burns like a dream. I found the people at HP to be really, really nice and helpful. Without her I would have given up. My neighbor has one and has never had problems like mine. It installed immediately and worked flawlessly. His computer is newer and he was also running Windows ME. For a cheap device, this suits my needs at the moment.
