I've been making my own LED lights with 3D printed housings for a few years and have recently tried my hand at making ultra thin lights using SMD LEDs and some stripe boards. I was thinking of a lantern-like design with four circuit boards lined with SMD LEDs for lighting. These boards give me more connectivity so I think they will be helpful when deciding on the main design and other factors. I inspected several boards to make sure the circuitry was intact and all the boards inspected turned out to be fine. Aside from messing up soldering the LEDs onto these boards, I don't expect any problems with them.
