Review on πŸ” Celestron C90 Mak Spotting Scope (Black) for Advanced Optical Exploration by Jason Robinson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great inexpensive scope for shooting spotting scope

I use it at the range for zeroing. So far super clean up to 200m. I can easily see .243 hits on the Shoot n See disc, but I can also see hits on the white pad I use. I'm sure a .223/5.56 hit would still be visible at 200 yards. This was done with the included 32mm eyepiece. I'm planning to buy a Celestron 8-24 eyepiece but if you already have a 12mm eyepiece that's probably all you need as long as you don't mind using two or one eyepiece for near and far vision . . The field of view is very good. I expect it to work well at 300 yards. I will inform you about it soon. My C90 is on a Dolica GX600B200 tripod. I just extend my upper (thickest) legs and plant them to my left when I shoot. The combination of the C90 and the Dolica GX600 makes for a pretty solid platform. I used the included soft case for transport. The Dolica tripod I bought comes with its own soft case. Set up and take down is quick enough. The scope is protected to some extent in a soft case for driving in the car, but I wouldn't do any specific drop tests. I don't think there is adequate protection against a fall from table height onto a concrete surface. If you're worried about that, check out the separate hard case. I'm just planning to be careful. After looking for the right spotting scope for this range and trying to make 60mm and 80mm scopes for a similar price, I'm glad I bought the C90. The field of view is better than others I've tried and the useful magnification you can get from this 90mm scope is better than the fixed 50x or 60x scopes you'll see . I will be testing at 500 yards this summer and expect good results. Will follow that up too. If you need something at 1000 yards I think it's fine, but the 120mm Maksutov might be a better choice.
