I also have a Monoprice Monolith USB DAC that uses a single Saber DAC based on the ESS 9018. I bought these to try balanced dual DAC headphones. To my surprise, everything sounds clearer with the Sabaj DA3 - even with the single-ended 3.5mm port. I have used modded Sony MDR V6, Sony MDR7520, Fostex/Modhouse Argon, AKG K550 and others with this DAC. All of my over-ear headphones have improved over the Monolith DAC in terms of clarity and imaging. There was a slight improvement in using 2.5mm balanced cables instead of 3.5mm unbalanced cables. I feel the extension is great for both low and high frequencies, I don't feel any significant rolloff. . The only disappointment was the use of delicate IEMs with a balanced port. It fizzed with two 32ohm IEMs, but not with a 3.5mm connector. The IEMs I used were Tenhz P4 Pro and Custom UE Triple Fi Quads. As far as I know the impedance of a balanced port is relatively high. On the other hand, it was a very impressive pseudo-desktop DAC. Now I use it connected to the balanced ports of a Loxjie P20 tube amp and the result is amazing. I wonder if further buying will reach the level of declining yields? . . So the improvement is not worth the price.
