I have a small square compost bin and these bags fit perfectly. I usually take out the compost a few times a week and the bag is pretty full of plant debris, coffee grounds and the like. The compost bag is strong enough to survive from the downstairs kitchen to the curbside compost bin; I also stretch it lightly around the compost bin and I think I only had one tear (which is saying something as I've been using these bags for quite some time now). I used to toss my compost in a paper grocery bag and then tossed it into the curbside compost bin, and I often ended up with a mess on my hands; This is a much simpler and cleaner solution.
