I bought this because I like the SA design. The basic problem is that this is a "smaller" version of the original. He uses ***ONLY*** augmented reality magazines! It has six (6) magazine pouches with simple Velcro closures. I'm sure the fabric was cut to minimize the cost. Unfortunately the pouches will not work with Galil, AK-74, non-AR .223 etc magazines if you wish to use pouches. If you stuff the pouches into the pouches and use magazines for "showcase" then they will fit. Unfortunately, this obviously causes the magazines to fail if they wiggle a lot (e.g. when walking, moving, etc.). The AK-74's magazines are fairly narrow so this can't be a problem, and certainly not a problem with a double mag front, and it shouldn't be a big problem with double mags at chest level. This is probably only a problem with the two side pockets on the belt. NOTE: If you stow flaps and use AK-74/Galil/non-AR .223 mags, remember they ***SNUG*** fit! They won't flop at all! If I were to make a change to the vest, the basic design change would be to move the velcro strips so they protrude about 2-3 inches from the pockets. This forces the pouches to work with covers to cover longer AK-74 and Galil magazines. Another option with preloaded valves is to attach a bungee cord to the top for "quick access". Of course, the stores are still SNUG! More dense than the classic Soviet pouch for 4 magazines. I personally find this to be an advantage as there is less chance of dirt getting on it (when magazines are placed upside down in pouches) and it prevents items from "flopping" while moving/running. I have an awl for sewing. With some simple modifications I removed and repositioned the velcro so it protrudes about 2 inches out of the pockets so the pocket flaps now close for 5.45 size magazines. I carefully sewed on the velcro, and voila, I have an AK-74 bag after the evening in front of the TV with my awl! :) Another point is that there is no place to attach a belt or a weapon. That may be a consideration for some. Again, an awl and some heavy gauge thread can solve this problem if you have the patience to modify a perfect vest! :) The overall design of the front pieces and the attachment to the back piece is very good. 4 adjustable ladder buckles balance the weight on the shoulders. The adjustment range is very good overall and can be set to "large" for use over winter gear. I would estimate the fit would drop to around 40-45 inches as I can wear it over a winter coat. The vest is fully insulated and the load is evenly distributed over the shoulders. there are no pressure points. The two large side pockets are large enough to serve as a garbage bag or play bag. They can probably wear MREs, they're so big. They have a little velcro on the "lids" to allow wires etc to protrude from the pockets. This can be useful when carrying gear longer than already long bags, or anything that requires a remote switch or cable (like a radio, etc.). The two small chest pockets on the sides are SMALL. They are the size of a pack of cigarettes. not very helpful. Also, the flaps don't have sides, so it's difficult to carry something like a multi-tool inside, as the tool(s) can move to the sides and end up falling out of the bag and getting lost. There are no clips or attachment points for additional gear. So if you need a flashlight pouch etc, you need to sew it on or find some other way to attach it. I've found that the shoulder straps provide a convenient attachment point for bags with belt loops, such as B. knife bags or multi-tool bags. My branded knife bag PERFECTLY slung over my shoulder and attached to the vest's shoulder adjustment buckles. This means that the knife / multi-tool is always at hand, regardless of your equipment. So I basically made the adjustment straps a "strap to strap". The back pocket is perfect for a hydration bladder and the lid, like the side pockets, has a Velcro tab to make it easy to attach a straw. on the shoulder and can be fixed with elastic loops (supplied). The bag has two compartments with a drawstring that opens into one large compartment. The smaller compartment below is perfect for first aid kits etc. The back pocket also has two straps below to attach something large like a sleeping bag, rolled up jacket or raincoat etc. There are also straps with buckles. on the sides for attaching additional equipment. There's plenty of room for stuff here! Back pockets are attached with strong zippers. They were a bit noisy on mine so I wrapped them in zip cord and that muffled the zips with no problem. Pros: ======== - The vest looks well put together. - A well thought-out arrangement of the pockets ensures an even weight distribution. - I like the color options. - Great price compared to other "tactical" vests. - Rubberized pouch liners for moderate water resistance. Cons:========= - The corners of the front panels are poorly cut and go into the back of the neck right where the shoulder adjustment buckles are. They itch terribly! If you're wearing this without a collared shirt, you'll need to use the included elastic straps (or fabric tie!) to cover those areas and protect your neck. - Magazine pouches can only hold AR magazines without Velcro "adjustment". - No belt clip or gun holster included. - Additional pockets are not supplied without "creative placement" or stitching. Overall I give a thumbs up! For me, there are no "deal breakers" with this vest. If you have a sewing awl, you can change its position at will. I plan to buy another one for my other "Mouse Guns"! ;)
