Made in Japan? Things don't add up

This product is listed as "Made in Japan" and the price seemed too good to be true, but a number of reviews vouched for it. I decided to take a chance and order one knowing I could return it if something was clearly off - and something was from the second it arrived at my home. The product arrived in a package covered in Japanese lettering. However, being a native Japanese speaker I can tell you that the grammar is 100% incorrect. Whoever generated the wording on the package DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO SPEAK OR WRITE IN JAPANESE!Obviously, someone wrote text in another language and then used a translation app and copied-and-pasted the text. On the seller's company page they say they have set up a factory in Yokohama. Are these shears designed and made there from Japanese materials. Or are they designed in China and only assembled there? Either way, they also gave themselves a Japanese sounding name just so they can charge you more money by saying "Made in Japan". A lot of Chinese companies are doing this these days.In the end there are of a better quality than most stuff that is flat-out "Made in China" but these are not up to the high standards I expect from a Japanese product used for cutting, shearing, etc.I'm returning mine. These are not the same as a legitimate Japanese set of shears. I really feel this is dishonest advertising.

Pros
  • Suitable for a variety of pruning tasks, from trimming small plants to shaping large trees
Cons
  • The shears are not suitable for pruning young or delicate plants
