Review on Fred CORKY Vacuum Wine Pump: Authentic and Effective by Nick Bigalow

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works surprisingly well with some caveats

I have a FoodSaver vacuum pump that I usually use for wine storage but it's so hard to get it out so I decided to try this product. I wasn't expecting too much as manual vacuuming doesn't usually work that well. Well, I have to admit that this little contraption surprised me. It passed my first crucial test – I could put the bottle in the fridge up to my neck with wine and nothing spilled. As far as I can tell the wine still tasted pretty fresh after about 5 days so the STOPPER seems to be working. But it has a downside: you can't tell exactly when you've pumped out enough air. The cork is harder to squeeze, but that's the only indicator. And there's no way to tell when you've got a really good print. I discovered this the hard way when I put another bottle on its side and it actually spilled after a day or two. In general this will not replace a real vacuum pump. But I can recommend it for quick and easy short-term chilling, especially if you can keep the bottle upright or at least put paper towels underneath in case it spills.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Some bugs
