I recently switched from a Comcast X1 to DirecTV which had a backlit remote control which was very handy. DirecTV doesn't offer a backlit remote control, so I ordered that one. It's pretty good overall, but the backlight feature doesn't work as well as it did on the X1, which you just had to pick up to turn on the light. This remote has a button on the side for the backlight function, but instead of turning on the light, it either turns the entire backlight function on or off. This means you actually have to press one of the remote control buttons while the light is off to actually turn the light on and see what you're doing. As a result, you have to perform some unintentional actions with the remote (change volume, change channel, pause, etc.) to do something else in the dark. It would be nice if it worked like an X1 remote, or at least let the button on the side just turn on the light instead of turning the light function on or off entirely.
