I wanted to buy my own router instead of renting it from the cable company. The ISP I have uses fiber optic cable to provide internet access to its members, so I don't need a modem. just the router and an Ethernet cable that connects the router directly to a CAT-5 outlet. I've had the device for about 3 months now. The positive thing I can say is that it is easy to install and run. The built-in software called Netgear Genie is easy to use and allows you to set up a home network as well as a separate guest network and also offers you parental controls that allow you to restrict access to certain websites. The device also has a USB port; This allows you to connect a portable hard drive or flash drive to it and essentially turn it into a cloud where you can access the drive from any computer connected to the network. shine. All the devices I use are currently not directly connected to the device. From my smartphone to my Ipad to my Smart TV and laptop. I have a 2 storey house with an area of 2100 sq.m. Foot; The device is located in the middle (in one of the middle rooms) on the second floor. I'm having trouble getting a good signal in my downstairs master bedroom when using my phone or iPad. I also have a weak signal with my smart TV in the downstairs living room, which is a few feet down the hall and stairs from the unit; no further than 30-40 steps. I contacted support regarding this and they gave me the old "device too far" babble! Yes! That's why I bought a wireless router! Anyway, they were able to get it to work, but when I watch a Netflix movie, the screen still "buffers" at least once or twice over the course of a 2 hour movie. None of these problems occurred with the universal device supplied by the cable company. So I would say I'm a bit disappointed. On the second floor, everything (my PC connected wirelessly from the office area in the next room, or the smart TV in the same room as the router) works fine. I hope this helps anyone looking to purchase this product. I think this would work well in a one story apartment or condo, but not so well otherwise.
