Review on Bosch GLL3 330CG 360 Degree Three Plane Alignment Line by Nigel Cohen

With the exception of the BM-1 stand, a great product!

Accurate, has a calibration warning, can use the receiver, download the app on the phone to control it remotely, turn off and lock, can also work with a blocked laser. Excellent hard plastic carrying case includes BM-1, optional battery holder, laser soft case, target and charger. Great guide with instructions on how to check the calibration. They state that they should be calibrated within a year. If after that it fails, you need to go to the service center. The problem is BM-1. Two problems. 1) The 1/4" tripod thread on the laser is not centered on the bottom of the laser. This means that when mounted on the BM-1 stand, most of the laser's weight is in front of the tripod threads, which 2) The BM-1 is a well made and solid stand in most areas. Has tripod legs for added stability. The stand has a built in mechanism that allows you to raise and lower the laser by about 4". It is very smooth and has good traction so that it does not wobble, however, the thread of the tripod is attached to a round wheel that rotates, this is necessary for the laser to rotate after it is installed on the BM-1 stand, and here The problem is: the wheel that the tripod threads into has no significant friction once the laser is attached to it, and since the weight of the laser is forward, the wheel wobbles slightly and doesn't stay locked at an angle where you it d could turn. Thus, this whole engineering feat of the BM-1 is completely destroyed by the unstable thread wheel on the tripod. The instability makes the stand completely unusable, although all other features are well thought out. I don't think the designers ever tried to use this stand in the field! A simple workaround is to press a thin piece of wood or cardboard into the gap between the bottom of this wheel and the body of the BM-1 to hold it in place and eliminate the wobble. However, the kickstand needs to be redesigned to provide positive friction on the spinning wheel, and a method of locking that wheel in place is needed. They provided the locking of the vertical guide on the BM-1 - so why not make a locking of the rotating wheel on the same BM-1 mount! There are 3 screws on the bottom of this wheel but they are hard to get to - maybe I'll open it up and maybe there's a way to create positive friction when I'm tired of using spacers!

  • Laser levels and accessories
Cons
  • Small things
