Review on Sleek and Secure: Schlage F40ELA626 Elan Privacy Lever in Satin Chrome by Dean Locke

Not compatible with older models

In 2014, Allegion acquired Schlage, seemingly destroying the quality of this once-trusted brand. Older devices had nicer finishes with rounded edges, which created a nicer feel. The new ones have sharp edges that are uncomfortable to the touch. The old ones once had smooth rotation and clear locking mechanisms. The new ones have a gritty feel when the lever is twisted. The old ones were once brushed to a fine finish and shiny appearance. The new ones have a coarse grit that looks a lot cheaper. This is all especially frustrating because I have several old identical devices that I now need to replace if I want the right hardware that doesn't look or feel cheap.
