One of the most promising ways to backup your media files.

I'm serious. Is that so. Because think about it. You may have a tape, disk, solid state drive, or even crystal. But with all that choice, it makes sense. Tape: They have a shelf life of around 25 years and the LTO format or anything else on tape means you need a tape recorder that can load and record to it. Their purchase costs thousands of dollars, but on the downside, it's a cheap band. But in 25 years, try to find a tape recorder that you have on hand when you're ready to go through your old tapes. Take a VHS player for example. Hard drives and SSDs are great. They're cheap for what they are, but they have an even shorter lifespan than duct tape, and when they go missing you can't fix them cheaply, or in some cases at all. In 10 years you will be fighting a losing battle. M-Disc - slices your data into rock. It has a durability of more than 100 years and not only that, it can be thrown into the water and keep working. Finding or searching for an optical drive is painless, and in the future it will be much cheaper or more stable than an LTO drive. You can collect 100GB for $20, which might seem like a lot. But given its simplicity, as it's more future-proof than the latter and also more durable than a magnetic drive, it's a small price to pay. Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk.
