I bought this cable to 1) play music stored on a USB stick through my car speakers and 2) charge my Android phone (using a second USB cable for a mini USB adapter cable). I have a 2015 Volkswagen Passat SE. I simply plugged this cable into a port on the car, plugged a USB flash drive into the other end of this cable and pressed the media button on the center console screen. All the songs are displayed on the screen and I can navigate through the list of songs, set them to play in random order, set them to play in sequence, repeat the song that's currently playing, skip songs - whatever always. Song titles and artist names are displayed on the center screen. All I can say to people who couldn't get this cable to work to play music stored on their flash drives is "RTFM". As for using it to charge your phone, you obviously need to use a different cable with a USB connector on one end and a mini-USB connector on the other end, as phones have a mini-USB connector, but I have one Cable used in combination with This cable to charge my phone and it works great. I recommend this cable unreservedly.
