Review on πŸ” Mann Filter C 3698/3-2 Air Filter Element: Double Pack for Enhanced Performance! by Jeremy Levendusky

Cheap and easy exchange, takes about 20 minutes. BE SURE TO DEPRESS THE ENGINE COVER COMPLETELY!

Dealer offered a service for $190 that included replacing the air filters on my 2009 w204 C300. I'm glad I missed them because replacing them yourself was so easy! The only tool you will need is a set of torx bits/screwdrivers. After removing the old filters I saw so much stuck leaves, dirt and road debris in the old filter that I was amazed my car was working properly! All you have to do is remove the top plastic engine cover. It consists of two parts: a larger top, which contains both filters, and a smaller bottom cover. All are attached with latches and clips, so no screwing is required. The bottom part just pops out when pulled from below. Then disconnect two large plastic air hoses from each side of the cover. They require some curiosity, but will eventually come loose. Then remove another air tube on the bottom left, it's rubber. Then pry off the metal tab at the top of the engine cover. Then remove the entire plastic cover. This requires some strategic stretches on the sides. Once the cover is removed, simply turn it over and unscrew the 4 screws on each side of the cover. Remove the old filter, clean dirt from the internal tunnels and insert new filters. Use your hands or a flathead screwdriver to firmly insert the side grommets into the slot. Repeat the process in reverse order and you're done! For those who swear there is an increase in horsepower/power, it's unlikely you'll want an extra 1-2 horsepower. However, this gives you peace of mind that the machine is performing at its peak. *UPDATE* After changing this filter, my engine light came on for about 3 weeks. I tried to check everything and wanted to send the car because I was afraid that something was broken. However, I've looked online and many on the forums are saying that if you don't install the engine cover correctly it can cause engine failure as the air sensor struggles with intermittent air intake. I removed the cover to check that the filters were installed correctly. However, I didn't have the top metal clip for the engine cover and it didn't fit securely. I made sure to press on the engine cover when reinstalling it and the engine light went out!
