Review on ๐Ÿš— Quick-Strut 171281 Strut and Coil Spring Assembly by Monroe Shocks & Struts by Cre Soto

Revainrating 4 out of 5

2 ordered, 1 was defective

Last weekend I fitted new racks on all four wheels, two of these part number on my rear wheels. When I tried it out, I immediately noticed that I was getting a rattling ring and a thud from one of them. I thought maybe it was just that I hadn't gotten the alignment yet or that the spring wasn't fully installed. Upon further inspection I found that the master nut (which holds the coil spring) was not fully tightened and I had about a quarter inch of play where the washer rang. The stand was broken and had to be replaced. I just noticed while reviewing this article that another reviewer had the exact same issue almost 2 years ago. This is troubling as it suggests that Monroe was aware of the issue and hasn't improved its quality checks to prevent it from happening in the future. However, as always, Revain pulled it off and handed me a new rack in one night. I will examine it carefully before exchanging it and sending back the defective one. Installation isn't difficult, but it does require additional time and effort, and also means I have to wait until the new rack is installed to do the alignment. Ultimately, I remain loyal to Monroe products. The ride quality of my car has already improved a lot (a little stiffer than I expected, but I think it will soften up a bit as the new springs break in) and the other three struts weren't a problem at all. My steering is firmer and more responsive, almost sporty considering I drive a 10-year-old Cavalier. Just be sure to carefully inspect the entire unit prior to installation to save yourself a potential headache.
