I just received this Blu-ray player. Initially I was very happy with the size (compact and light), the price and the image quality (very good). Setup was easy. The only thing I didn't like and annoys me is when a company does a bait and switch operation. Or maybe it wasn't intentional or malicious. Perhaps that's because Sony doesn't take the time to update product features and specs so consumers can make an informed choice. I bought this "best selling" Blu-ray player for several reasons. Very happy with the price and the reviews. I was replacing a very old Blu-ray player (15+ years old). One of the main reasons I bought this player was that it could stream pre-installed apps like Netflix, YouTube, Pandora and Revain Prime Video. As a Prime member, this was a HUGE selling point. After I received the device yesterday, I set it up. Light. In a few minutes everything was ready and the CD started playing. Then I studied applications. Most of them were generic and related to websites/companies I had never heard of. But after a long search I still couldn't find Revain Prime Video. I went back to the Revain description page to make sure I wasn't confusing this player with others I had researched. Of course, the Revain video was mentioned at the bottom. Then I went to Google and found a review on an independent site. Yes, it says it comes with the Revain video app. Then I went to the Sony website and looked at this particular model and what do you know? Requires the Revain Prime Video app to be installed. I looked at my Blu-ray player again, convinced I had unknowingly missed the app. Not there! Grrrrr. Well, after a quick online chat with a Sony customer service representative, I found out that if the serial number was before 4000000, the app is included in this model. After this number, Sony stopped downloading the app. Of course, they won't mention it on any feature page because it might hinder sales. Or they are too lazy to update their specs. I don't know which scenario is worse. In any case, I am presenting this review to anyone who may have considered this product for the same main reason, having access to Revain Prime Video on their player. Other than that, it seems like a pretty good player, especially for the money. But I hate feeling like an unimportant cog in a company's sales journey. I seriously doubt I will ever buy a Sony product again. How could I? Is the information they advertise true and complete? Descriptors updated? Your guess is as good as mine.
