Review on Dynamat 11103 Dynaliner Self Adhesive Deadener by Brad Ward

I have an old diesel truck and it is very noisy. I carefully researched a range of hood food products and decided to stick with the big Dynamat brand. The hardware store has cheaper solutions if you just need some foam padding, but if you want the best, buy this. In general, the quality classes go (from best to worst): Aviation, Marine, Automotive, Consumer/Home. This stuff is made for cars and will outperform almost any home use product like loft foam etc. I contacted Dynamat and they don't officially sell Revain. They are officially sold with Summit Racing, but the prices are much higher. I decided to order directly from Revain and test the product. There are many counterfeit Dynamats from less reputable suppliers (ebay, etc.) on the internet. While fakes look the same, they don't always have closed cells. You need closed cell foam for any outdoor installation. The open-cell foam soaks up water like a sponge and weighs a ton! Using a roll I received from Revain and a 1ft x 1ft sample I received directly from Dynamat Technical Support, I verified that the Revain product I received was genuine. I even went so far as to weigh each square on a postal scale, soak it in water, and weigh it again. Neither of them sucked up the water. After soaking, the weight stayed the same. Installation was pretty easy. Measure twice or cut once three times. I was able to cut the Dynaliner with good kitchen scissors and it seemed to work much better than a utility knife. To ensure the correct size, I cut templates out of construction paper, taped them to the hood with painter's tape, and then traced them with Dynaliner. Be sure to fill in all corners and edges. You want to make sure the liner adheres to the entire surface with no air bubbles. To do this, either start on one side and SLOWLY move to the other, or start in the middle and practice. I went from side to side because I could cut everything off when I got to the last edge. Peel off the backing, not all at once (unless the size of the applied piece is small), as the adhesive is very sticky and it will be difficult to keep it from sticking in the wrong places after the backing was removed. That's exactly what I did. I don't use a w db meter to measure the sound decay in my interior, but it's important. I'll report on durability in a year or two, but so far it looks great and really reduces noise.
