Review on Seattle Sports RS Universal Carrier by Micael Casillas

Great product but may have strap length issues

This kit has everything you need to attach a canoe to a car and does the job perfectly. My only issue is the straps for attaching the front and back of the boat. Like most straps, the included straps come in 2 pieces, one with a hook on one end and a clamping mechanism on the other end, and the other with a hook on one end and a loose end. The free end of the last segment fits into the clip of another segment and you can adjust the total effective length. My problem is that the hook clip segment is too long. I only needed a short strap to attach the front of the boat to the mounting points under the hood of my car. Because the length of the hook clip segment was too long, I wasn't able to shorten the overall length enough to tighten the strap. Luckily I had other belts of the right size on hand, otherwise I would have had to get creative. Many vehicles have anchor points far enough from the front of the canoe that the above issue is not an issue. Just note that there is a minimum strap length that can be achieved. (I didn't measure but I think around 6 feet.)

Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
