Received from our farrier to begin basic hoof care between visits. The wire cutters are ok - not the sharpest but seem pretty solid. The hoof knife is a joke. The steel is of fairly low quality and not easy to get sharp enough to cut. But even after it gets a decent edge, it doesn't hold that edge for more than a notch or two. Finally, the most important part of this set is the file. The rasp side of the course is disappointingly boring. In fact, the thinner side of the file actually removes hoof material almost as quickly as the rasp side. From the packaging, the side of the course worn against my palm didn't tell me it wasn't going to do much. I have worked on several files for various purposes in my time including horseshoe files/rasps. Even a mediocre rasp tends to be impractical for hand contact. I was thinking of returning it but the package was disposed of by my daughter so I probably won't. But I don't think I will like the products of this manufacturer too much in the future.
