I have 3 Alex drawers from IKEA and I use them to store paper. Multiple drawers hold heavy items. Under the weight, the bottom of the thin chipboard box was pulled out of the groove that held it in place. I used end tab spacers (where the mounting screws go) with both facing up. Not one up and one down as shown in the picture. Nothing prevents you from opening and closing the drawers - neither the protrusions on the ends nor the wing bolts. The biggest problem was that the bottom of the drawer warped due to the weight I was holding in the drawer and continued to warp even after the struts were installed and the struts only flexed to match the flex of the chain. So I removed the spacer and removed the front of the drawer, rotated the bottom of the drawer and then put everything back together. This works very well. Only time will tell if the box can deform again. **Remember that the box now has a brown bottom - it's not white anymore. I think I could color it, but that's too big a problem. And you will only see it when you open the box. It's best to attach one of these brackets to each drawer before using them and hopefully they never warp. You might want to use some kind of Locktite compound on the bolts/wing nuts that hold the struts together so they don't loosen over time. My only complaint is that there were no instructions included with the set of 4 staples I received. Each set includes 4 wood screws (sharp point), 4 regular screws and 4 small flat nuts. I didn't use small nuts and bolts, but I think you could use them instead of large bolts and wing nuts if they interfere with opening/closing the drawer.
