If you are getting a hot incoming signal at the antenna in the low -40 range, your best bet is to move and/or detune the external antenna. However, if you have a situation where you need to rent a $300/day elevator to get to an outdoor antenna, there is a risk of falling down very tall stairs, or in other difficult situations that make antenna setup impractical, then you will this damper will save the day and maybe your life. Only use in situations where the signal is very strong and will turn off your amplifier immediately. There are other versions (with different levels of attenuation) of this attenuator that should be considered depending on the level of the incoming signal. Attenuate only what is necessary to prevent your amplifier from overloading and shutting down. If your amplifier shuts down and you have easy access to an external antenna, the first thing you should try is moving and/or detuning the antenna. I only recommend using this or any other attenuator as a last resort.
