Review on Monroe 911223 Reflex Truck Absorber by Michael Schwegman

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Monroe front shocks

I bought these over a year ago but decided to wait to post a review. Shock absorbers came whole with no damage. The stretch bands were still on and holding the piston in compression until I was ready to install them. On my 2005 2500, the front shocks do not dampen as well as the new Mopar shocks. Mopar has quite a few different part numbers depending on your truck's build code and what type of front springs it has. My truck has a snow plow preparation package and a diesel engine. As a result, these beats feel a little softer than the originals. In fact, these shocks are designed for more uses than I expected. For example, a diesel engine adds more weight to the front of a car than a gasoline engine. However, the dampening has remained constant over the past 15 months. I live in the North East and have pre treated my car with a protective coat and then a coat of black paint to reduce rust. In that respect they are still in good shape. I gave it 3 stars because I think they are average and have no real advantage over other "standard" aftermarket shocks including the Monroe Gas Magnum shock. I was expecting a stiffer ride from the Reflex shock line. Bought them over a year ago but decided to wait to review. Shock absorbers came whole with no damage. The stretch bands were still on and holding the piston in compression until I was ready to install them. On my 2005 2500, the rear shock damping is comparable to Mopar shocks when they were new. I don't know for sure, but I think Mopar doesn't have as many part numbers for rear shocks as they do for front ones. And I believe all 3/4 ton DH pickups except the Power Wagon have the same rear springs. These shocks feel strong enough to prevent excessive bouncing when the bed is empty and cushion enough when I'm loaded or lugging 11,000 pounds. And the dampening has remained constant over the last 15 months. I live in the North East and have pre treated my car with a protective coat and then a coat of black paint to reduce rust. In that respect they are still in good shape. I gave it 4 stars because I think they are better than other aftermarket shocks including the Monroe Gas Magnum shock. EDIT: These shock absorbers are now four years old. While I don't expect mechanical parts to last forever, I didn't expect a mono-tube shock to start failing already - if it were a twin-tube shock I would expect that. One of them is leaking fluid and none of them have the same compression and rebound damping as when new. When I re-read the Monroe warranty it said to contact the seller they were purchased from. When Revain contacted him, the representative stated that he offered no guarantee on the goods; Such questions should be brought to the attention of the manufacturer. So I called Monroe and after dialing the warranty number, the record said to contact the seller they were purchased from. I called again and this time pressed the number that tech support referred to. A voice that sounded like a foreigner answered and barely understood me, and I barely understood him. After describing my problem, I was directed to voicemail. I downgraded my rating to two stars. For Revain's cheap price, they briefly served their purpose. However, this time I'm buying Bilstein shock absorbers instead of a monotube shock absorber. and since the price of Revain is the same as other retailers, I will buy them from a retailer that deals in truck parts and will give them a guarantee.
