I bought this because I grow tomatoes indoors. I don't know how to cut tomatoes either. I suggest you use this with a long, thin, serrated knife. I wouldn't use this with something like a chef's knife or a santoku because you can dull the blade. Combined with the right thin knife, this thing will slice tomatoes of any size in no time! It helps make the prettiest slices for things like sandwiches and caprese salads. They are also suitable as salad tongs. I like the locking handle so they can be put in the drawer without opening it. I'm glad I added this handy gadget to my kitchen utensil collection.
