Great Rugged Switch

Updated Review 2019 (Five Stars) This switch does a great job and handles the little things. Now that my home is full of Homekit devices from many brands, I can appreciate the product much more accurately and appreciate its performance. The fact that this switch uses Bluetooth instead of Wi-Fi comes with a lot of compromises. This increases device latency but also uses less power and doesn't clog my WiFi. I usually have everything set up to use work machines. automatically. If a device is delayed by 7 seconds, it will not affect the result of this automation. When you use this switch as a trigger for automation, it works fine and with about the same latency as a Wi-Fi device. Bluetooth also means it works even if my router is broken, but the range is limited by the Bluetooth range of my phone and AppleTV. If you're all on Homekit, chances are you're all on Apple too, and that shouldn't be a problem. I really appreciate the indicator light on this switch. I also have wall switches from Sylvania (great, but there's an on/off rocker switch and now it bothers my wife), Koogeek, and Insignia (don't buy the Insignia home set from Best Buy, it's junk). All three other brands have non-programmable indicator lights. They all glow green when powered on and off when powered off (Sylvania glows a faint blue when powered off). With the Eve switch, you can have the green light 1. always off, 2. on when the light is on, or 3. on when the light is off. I use option 3 to make it easier to find in the dark. If this were in my bedroom I would probably choose option 2 and/or use a different function to select one of three levels of brightness. One thing that gets me a little frustrated with this device app and many others including iDevices, Koogeek, and Sylvania is that they try to be your "everyone" home app. They show you all your devices and don't really have a filter to only show you that specific company's devices. I mainly use the device-specific app for adjusting settings for devices of this particular brand and for firmware updates. I have my own home app and some third party apps that are great for general control of any hardware. When I go to the Eve app, I want to check for Eve firmware updates and possibly change device-specific settings. Pros:* Bluetooth - doesn't clog your Wi-Fi, uses less power when idle* Programmable indicator light* Simple touch to change switch state (instead of discrete on/off switches)* No moving parts to wear out. normal Decora switch (could be for some pros) * Bluetooth may delay 1-7 seconds * Does not track power consumption, but can be determined by lamp power and time specified in the application. Original 2017 (Four Star) Review This switch works great, but Bluetooth and the lack of a physical button doesn't make it as transparent as it could be. Basically I bought this because I was too impatient to wait for iDevices' dimmer switch (IMO the gold standard in HomeKit). Plus, it was half the price of an iDevices Wi-Fi switch. Basically, capacitive or whatever works well enough for determining on/off switching, but we have a lot of misfires. The nature of a Bluetooth LE device means that it will change state approximately 3-6 seconds after being requested by the phone. When you touch it, it will immediately switch states if you don't touch it properly, and then you'll have to touch it again. It's also a bit confusing that they include on/off monitoring but no performance monitoring. A great addition to our HomeKit home, but it's not perfect. I'm looking forward to a switch for the same price that I just pre-ordered from Koogeek that works with Wi-Fi instead of Bluetooth.
