I bought this for infused soda and cold drinks and it works well for both. But in order to understand how to close and open it, you need to study a little. To close, holding it towards you, align the pointed part of the top with the handle, then twist it to the left until the pointed part aligns with the spout of the pitcher. This ensures a good seal. To open, facing you again, twist the pointed part slightly to the right. You don't want the point to be fully aimed at you as it will be too loose and water can seep through. Visually check that the hole is fully open. I love sparkling water and use Soda Stream for convenience and less plastic. I usually drink about 2 liters a day. I prefer more natural flavors like fresh lemon, lime and mint than the flavors that come with them. But as far as I know you can't carbonate the water after flavoring it as it will clog the airflow of the carbonation. I was looking for a smaller pitcher that wouldn't take up too much fridge space. I also needed one with a good seal to keep the water carbonated so it doesn't go bad when flavored. This worked great for my needs. I've recently started taking risks with cold beer. It's been terribly hot in the New York area for most of this summer and I only have air conditioning in one room. One day it was around 100 and too hot to get in the car for an iced coffee. So I started making my own. I like Grady's set, but since I live alone, it had too much coffee to brew per her instructions, so I reduced the amount to fit her proportions. I tried to brew in a little. I'll probably have to find another method. Pockets can easily rip even with a kit, and the opening on this one is narrower. It broke in that container when I tried to get it out. There were coffee grounds in my coffee. But the filter worked very well. I thought I would have to throw away the whole batch. But several cycles of pouring from this one to another container and back again helped get rid of the grind. I don't think it has anything to do with the pitcher, more the brewing method.
