Great for 3D printing rafts/props

I have a dual extruder 3D printer. I am using ABS on one extruder and HIPS on the other extruder. With Makerware (or another slicer) you can set up your prints to use HIPS through one raft/support nozzle and ABS through the other. not connect well at all. I figured I needed Limolene to dissolve the material. But I haven't even opened the bottle yet. I wouldn't do a real 3D print with ONLY this material. I've noticed that HIPS warps a lot with higher walls and is quite brittle. For HIPS I set the extruder to 232 degrees (Celsius). Update: Almost 3 years later I still use this thread in almost all print media. I don't even try to dissolve the HIPS anymore - the prints smell like orange cleaner and it's very expensive. I would still suggest using this for "raft" and "scaffolding" on your print. HIPS does not combine with ABS/PLA at all and can give your prints a unified printing platform.

Pros
  • Compatible with RepRap, Makerbot, Afinia, Solidoodle or any standard spool based 3D printer
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
