Review on πŸŽ™οΈ Deity S-Mic 2S: Ultra Low-Off Axis Coloration Shotgun Microphone with Weather Resistance, RF-Interference Proof, and Lightweight Design by Robert Jaskolski

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Fool me once, fool me twice

I was trying to get into the deity mic truck. I really did. I've spent hours watching reviews and comparison videos on YouTube on how good these gun mics are, especially for the money. I then initially ordered a Deity S-Mic 2S (the shorter of the two Deity S-Mic series). It came with a broken microphone stand mount. Okay, not that much, but I still have five bucks to spend. I also found the microphone to be loud. Thinking I might have gotten a bad one, I ordered and tried out a Deity S-Mic 2 (the longer one in the Deity S-Mic series) and got myself a "tracking kit" that comes with a hard carrying case. Same noise issue as the S-Mic 2S, the black matte finish had some chipping on the front and another bad mic clip was included (couldn't remove the brass insert). Looks like the bad mic clips are due to brass corrosion and the first one was so frozen there was no hope. On the second I used Kroil Penetrating Oil and finally managed to peel it off. Just so you know I'm not an unfounded A/V or mic snob, let me tell you that I set up the Deity S mics with a large frame Rode condenser mic and a simple standard X/Y mic capsule compared to the Zoom H6. In all my tests, the Deity S-Mic was louder. I returned the S-Mic 2 as did the S-Mic 2S. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect lower noise levels from mics than this, and cosmetic issues and poor mic clips have ruined my relationship with the brand.

Pros
  • Multipurpose
Cons
  • Lots of stuff
