Review on πŸ’ͺ Enhanced Performance: Hopkins 46365 Short Proof Power Converter by John Ramsey

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Has worked well for many years on 2 Toyota Siennas

Everything works fine so far. Between my Toyota Sienna and various boat trailers. It seems to have plenty of power for many trailer lights. Not sure if this applies to other converters, but the trailer lights only work when the car key is turned on to power the converter. (simply turning on the parking lights of the car without turning the key will illuminate the car but not the trailer). Update: I installed this converter in 2 Siennas in a row and found this converter to be the most reliable I have ever had. uses trailers for more than 30 years. If the trailer hitch is installed, it usually fails after 2-3 years. I have the second of these Hopkins (because we have a new Sienna). I've never had a problem. Installation knowledge: 1. It should be convenient for you to find out which wire on your car is suitable for connecting to each of the 4 wires of the converter's light sensor. On my Sienna I removed 2 taillights, which is very simple: 4 quick screws. Then I disconnected the quick couplers that Toyota uses. Then using my voltmeter while my wife was in the driver's seat and using all the turn signals, brake lights and taillights, it was easy to find which wire was which. Write it down! (White was grounded) This is what my Toyota Sienna 2016 LE has: Ground/negative (no wire connected): White Brake: Blue on the right rear light. Taillights: Green on the right taillight. Yellow I believe on a rectangular fork on the left. They include excellent 3M quick connectors that make it easy to connect the transducer cables to these vehicle cables. And it should be convenient for you to connect the converter's 12V power cable to your car's power supply. . It should run under the car to the positive terminal of the battery (where the supplied fuse should also be inserted). But I soldered a positive (black) wire to the rear right cigarette lighter. It was a little tricky to remove the plastic connector from the end of the wire with a tiny screwdriver, but then I just soldered to the end of the cigarette wire.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Basically everything is fine, but...
