Great set at this price

I can be "nervous" as my husband says, and to relax I've started painting again! When I was a little girl I loved coloring - nothing beats a new box of crayons - sharp points, colors and shades - and a sharpener on the back to boot! As I got older, the books got a bit more complicated. complex and I started using colored pencils and good pencils are EXPENSIVE! I don't remember my crayons costing that much (nor the crayons I buy for boys to use at school cost that much either). BUT, a good set of colored pencils gives a much richer and more vibrant look - so I did it. When I arrived a few weeks later I noticed this set and thought why not? Of course, I don't use all of the consumables regularly, but I tried them for the purposes of this review. Let me start with tablets - paper is great! Or how great paper can be - it's thick and the VERY light texture seems to make the colors a little more vibrant. I'm not a draftsman - my stick figures aren't great but my 11 year old son loves to draw and he loves it. I love that the paper is thick enough that it doesn't bleed if he decides to use markers! Crayons are my real reason I picked them up, amazing! Admittedly I'm not a pro, but they are by far the nicest I've ever had. The colors are rich and vibrant, the pen is beautiful and durable. Oil pastels - well, I screwed up! As I've always done with pastel, but it's very different from the chalk pastel I've used in the past. I see that in the hands of someone more skilled they offer amazing possibilities - for easy blending or blurring to create depth and shadows. Overall this seems to be a good set. My son loves these markers. They have a brush tip so it took him a minute or two to get used to it - TAAAAAAAAAAAAA, very different from his $4 school set, let me tell you! But he said the colors are pleasant and the markers are easy to use. The charcoal is good too - again I messed up a bit and my drawing fell out of frame (I drew the sun i.e. basically a circle!) but they moved fine. on paper, well mixed and honestly wasn't as messy as I thought it would be. Again I have to say they belong to someone more capable so I got my husband to try them. He liked them, enjoyed working with them on the tablets that came with the kit, and even drew with the clipboard. I will say the case hasn't been used much but it's a nice addition - I saw someone set up a painting easel outside and use it to carry supplies. All in all for the price this is a great set for our aspiring artist and I love colored pencils. The included pencil sharpener is very practical and handy. For those who are just starting to get serious about art, this seems like the perfect choice!
